Chapter 66 - Monn Entered the Capital

Chapter 66: Monn Entered the Capital

Monn and Ace finally reached the capital at dusk after a day-long journey.

They could have reached earlier if not for their encounters with the bandit along the way.

As the orthodox believers of light and justice, they needed to intervene, especially Monn, as he was deeply saddened by such acts of the bandits.

He seized their loot and used it as the mission funds for the Cardinals of the Orthodox Church.

This was why Monn felt even more disgusted over the robberies in the Kingdom of Kate. He wished he could capture all the robbers in the entire kingdom and seize all their stolen goods and money.

Ace had no comment about this. He could just tell her his real motives. There was no need for him to make it seemed so righteous.

Monn was both overjoyed and disappointed when he reached the capital.

He was happy with the unexpected gains from the trip to the capital, but was disappointed that the gains were too few, which left him dissatisfied.

He took out the money and counted them. There were 36 pounds and 73 shillings. He clicked his tongue at the amount of money in his hand. These bandits were rich.

Looking at Monn’s greedy look, a resigned smile appeared on Ace’s face. He was adorable, like this.

Still, she interrupted Monn’s attempt to make another count. “Let’s go. We’ll meet the Pope first.”

Hearing that, Monn looked at the time. It was about time for him to go off work. He refused, “No. It’s about time for me to knock off.”

With that, Monn walked into the city.

Ace was left speechless.

Although she had got to know Monn better after these few days, his behaviour would still sometimes catch her dumbfounded.

It was the Pope they were supposed to be meeting, after all.

Suddenly Munn stopped.

“Had Monn thought it was inappropriate for him to not meet the Pope today?” Ace thought to herself.

Monn turned around, and quietly, he asked, “Where are we staying tonight?”

“What?”

She ran after him and asked, “Didn’t you say that you were going back to St. Servant tonight?”

Monn coughed lightly. “I’ve thought about it. Little Elma hasn’t left St. Servant for so many years. Let’s take this opportunity to bring her here and experience this city.”

Ace nodded, agreeing to Monn’s idea. “I like this idea. Let’s bring Little Elma here to have some fun.”

Monn nodded quickly, as if he’d been waiting for Ace to agree to his suggestion. “Alright, then I’ll leave it to you to take care of the food and lodging of Elma and mine.”

He spun around and left before Ace could react.

Ace stood rooted to the ground, stunned, feeling deceived. She shook her head. She did not mind, really. As a saintess, she had abundant in monies.

After Monn left Ace, he wandered the bustling capital, since Little Elma was supposed to reach home about twenty minutes later.

The streets of the capital were paved with clean blue bricks. All kinds of shops filled both sides of the pathway, selling things that Monn found strange and had never seen before when he was in Saint-Servant.

When he passed by a dark alley, a few unusual sounds came to his ears. Monn looked in the direction where the sound came from and saw a noble lady being forced into a corner by a few fierce looking brawny men. She had a shoulder-length red curly hair and was clad in a crimson long dress with high slits.

But Monn found it strange that she showed no sign of fear, even when she was surrounded by these men. She raised the burgundy feather fan in her hand and pulled out her right leg gently, revealing her fair and slender leg.

All the men surrounding her stared unblinking and took a few gulps of their own saliva. The young girl noticed their expression and twitched her lips in disdain.

“You bunch of lowly people blocking in front of me are seeking death.” She arrogantly roared at them.

The strongest among them seemed startled by the young girl’s arrogant voice. He wiped off the saliva that dripped out from the corner of his mouth and guffawed. “How dare you to be so arrogant after being caught by us? I think you deserve a lesson from us.”

He guffawed again. His underlings followed his lead and guffawed as well.

“Haha… Chief, this girl is really arrogant. She really deserved a lesson from you.”

“Yes… Yes…”

The chief seemed pleased by his underlings cheering. Then he stared at the young girl and approached her with a lewd smile.

As the young girl saw him getting closer, she played along without losing her composure. She was still confident and arrogant, firmly believing that help would come to her, and that the world would look out for her.

Coincidentally, her bright and beautiful eyes glimpsed of Monn, who was in a red-robed, looking in her direction.

She immediately laughed out loud with confidence and arrogance. Wasn’t she blessed? A red-robed Cardinal passed by just as she was in danger. She even knew what would happen next.

A red-robed Cardinal from the Orthodox Church would come to her aid without a second thought, playing out the routine of heroes saving a damsel in distress, when they saw a few fierce-looking men with evil smiles forcing a weak, delicate young girl against the wall.

Come Cardinal, I’m reluctantly offering you the opportunity to be a hero. Accept it gratefully.

Her confidence and arrogance were unparallel.

But Monn continued to stand at the entrance into the alley, with no means to go nearer, as if he was passer by watching an excitement on the street.

The young girl’s expression finally changed from arrogance to panicky when she realised that the big man’s dirty hand was about to grab her.

She weakly shouted towards Monn, “Red-robed over there, can’t you see they were committing a crime against a young, beautiful girl? Isn’t it a rule of the Orthodox church to help and protect those in need?”

Monn showed no reaction towards the girl’s words, but her shouts gave those burly men a fright.

They hurriedly turned around to only meet Monn’s calm gaze. They were stopped in their tracks, unsure of how they should react at the very moment.

He was the red-robed Cardinal of the Orthodox Church, after all. They were afraid of both his capabilities and reputation.

Looking at the fright in the eyes of those burly men, the red-haired girl instantly gloated.

Unexpectedly, Monn calmly replied, “I’m sorry. I’ve already gotten off work. It’s my private time now. You may look for the members of the Orthodox Church who are currently at work if you need any protections.”

Both the young girl and the burly men were dumbfounded by his words. They couldn’t understand what Monn had just said, but they caught on to the last sentence. The red-robed wasn’t going to interfere.

However, Monn was still standing at the entrance into the alley calmly. These burley men did not dare to have any more bad thoughts. They stood uneasily in the alley, unsure whether they should leave.

The noble girl was startled for a while before she finally understood that the red-robed Cardinal had no intention to save her. For a moment, she felt as though the world was playing a joke on her. Did they send someone over just to watch her being bullied by these burly men?

However, she soon realized that even if the red-robed Cardinal weren’t coming to her aid, these men wouldn’t dare to touch her if he continued to stand at the entrance into the alley, looking at them.

She instantly became arrogant again.
